Beautiful and ergonomic benches are arguably the most underrated of all decor. We use them almost endlessly in every possible setting that ranges from the official to the casual. Yet, we tend to overlook these practical and efficient furnishings for the fancier accent chairs, plush sectional sofas and even the stylish bedside nightstands and stools! But today, we are putting the spotlight back on some amazingly cool and sophisticated benches from Porada. Showcasing the crisp and clean aesthetics of Scandinavian design, each of these benches steals the show with unmatched elegance. Crafted to add to the beauty of your interior, modern benches can be used in pretty much any room of your choice. From being classy bedroom benches to lovely lawn furniture, these simple additions can be moved with ease from one room to another. Enchanting Beauty of BeltLeading the pack is the audacious and intricately designed Belt by Tarcisio Colzani. The top of this rectangular bench is crafted from genuine solid canaletta walnut and from a distance; you might well be tempted to believe that it is made of fabric! A sleek metal base adds to the textural contrast that it adds to any space it adorns. Versatile, portable and cutting across several themes, it fits in even the tightest corners with ease. A masterpiece that is easy on your eyes… Inspired by George Nelson?Have you ever come across the amazing Nelson bench designed by George Nelson himself in 1964? Every design aficionado is probably well versed with its iconic design that brought together form and function with such effortless simplicity. On first look, the Listone looks like it was made as a tribute to the Nelson bench. The form, the uncomplicated straight lines and obviously the material of choice is very similar. Yet, its legs set it apart from its more famous predecessor and its seemingly open ends give it a striking rustic charm as well. A Trio of Cushioned DelightsRounding up the exclusive lineup of benches from Porada is the upholstered trio of Cheri, Scarlett and Giulietta. While Cheri is for those who prefer a more classical look with its traditional, curvy arms at the end, Scarlett explores the opposite end of the spectrum with its completely cushioned, glamorous form. Coming with removable covers and a frame in solid cherry, the Giulietta is the perfect compromise between the two styles!

Choosing the right dining table can be an overwhelming affair, especially if you do not know exactly what you’re looking for. The options are simply endless, and going into a store uninformed means depending on the judgment of the salesman. Most often, that strategy leads to bringing home a table that is a complete misfit. There was a time when picking up a new dining table was a pretty simple affair. You went ahead and brought home a table depending on the size of your dining room and also your own budget constraints. Picking matching chairs was not even an issue, as most of these tables came with a pre-existing set of chairs. But those decades are well behind us, and the modern home is all about a wonderful amalgamation of several different styles, trends, textures and shapes. Add to this the popularity of the open floor plan and the conventional dining room seems like a thing of the past. Worry not though, as we here at Decoist will get you through your decor conundrum with this simple and effective dining table buying guide. Delve in to find out more… The Classic Rectangular LookOne of the first decisions that you need to make is regarding the shape of the dining table that you wish to purchase. Believe it or not, this aspect is relatively simpler than choosing the style of the table! The rectangular dining table is obviously the most popular among the lot. It is universally loved, both for its form and functionality. View the rectangular table as an option that brings together the ‘best of both worlds’, as it offers the visual of clean and well-defined straight lines while serving your needs flawlessly. Whether it is a lovely evening dinner with the family or grand holiday celebrations, this table plays the ideal host! Round Tables: Space-Saving Delights If the rectangular dining table is the most popular option, the round and oval dining tables are the favorites in the small dining room category. It is not a coincidence that most compact dining spaces feature a beautiful circular dining table, preferably with pedestal legs. And if you are looking for an iconic classic in this department, we can even safely suggest that you consider taking home the fabulous and everlasting Saarinen Tulip Dining Table. Round tables also help create a more intimate setting, and in a world dominated by straight lines, the curves offer a welcome change. It is best to opt for a round dining table only when you need to seat six or people or less. Larger round dining tables make both conversation and serving a touch inconvenient. But add a stunning pendant light above, along with two plush chairs, and these small, rounded wonders can fashion a warm and romantic setting that is simply magical. The Perfect Square! A square dining table is probably the least preferred option, and it is not very often that you see designers adding one to a lavish dining room. Just like the round version, here is another case of ‘small is beautiful’. Large square tables also make serving a hassle, so pick one of these only when you are hosting four to six people at most. However, some square tables can seat larger numbers, such as eight. Square tables look good in long, narrow rooms, as they offer a sense of proper proportion, or you can even couple them with a rug to create a space that appears like a ‘room within a room’. What is Your Style?Crafting that brilliant dining room is all about getting the theme and the style right. When it comes to dining tables in an open floor plan, it is best to opt for one that seems like a natural extension of the remainder of the living area. Some might want to add chic contrast by using a rustic table in a modern space or even a minimalist metal table in a room dominated by warm wooden tones. This looks amazing as well and can create an instant focal point when combined with the right lighting. If you own a small studio apartment, glass and acrylic tables seem ideal, while those who play the perfect host on weekends might want the comfort of an extending table. Salvaged wood tables are currently one of the hottest design trends, and with a growing eco-consciousness among consumers, they seem like a logical choice for the green at heart. Whether you are a traditionalist or a design aficionado who loves Mid-Century modern, remember that the table you choose will set the tone for the entire dining area. Sizing Up Your TableAfter making up your mind on both the style and the shape of the table, it is time to move ahead to the all-important size. There are a few simple and standard numbers that will get you through this difficult part. The golden rule here is to ensure there is at least 42-48 inches of spacebetween the table and the edge of the adjoining walls or furniture. This will give you adequate room to move around and will ensure that the diners can get up and sit down without having to cramp themselves into the chair. We suggest you chalk out this area, cover it with a tablecloth or bed sheet, and then use it as a template for the maximum and minimum size of the table you intend to purchase. A simple and practical way that makes the entire process far easier! While the gap between the table and the walls can be larger, try not to opt for one that looks diminutive in an overwhelmingly large room. Have a clear idea regarding how often you are going to use the table, and if it will see even a bit of outdoor action during the holiday season. If so, then pick a table that is light, movable and is made out of a durable material. This way, you can shift it easily into the adjoining yard or balcony to host an unforgettable Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner under the stars! Exclusive dining rooms often demand something more sturdy and timeless in its appeal. Form, Seating and Lighting
Most often, people tend to think about chairs, lighting and maybe even the area rug after committing to a table. Do not make this cardinal error that pretty much paints you into a corner. Try out the table along with the chairs you fancy before buying it. Think of it as one big and coherent combination, with the table being the central piece. You do not want to put yourself in a place where you will bring home a boring chandelier or dining room chairs that you are not really comfortable with, just because they go along with the table you already have. We always tend to talk about how accent colors have made an astounding comeback in the last decade or two thanks to both homeowners and designers gravitating towards the use of cool neutral shades. But most often, our search for brilliant accent hues starts and ends with paint. We generally tend to relegate ourselves to the use of an accent wall to usher in a bright shade, when there are other attractive and far more ergonomic ways of doing in. Throw pillows and accent fabric is one such cool option which allows you to shift between hot seasonal design trends with ease. An accent lamp is another great option for those looking for solutions beyond the obvious. Today we limit ourselves to browsing through the brilliant array of accent table lamps and the many magical shades that they arrive in. While dazzling modern pendant lights are all the fancy currently, table lamps have an innate nostalgic appeal that is undeniable and irresistible. Add a dash of invigorating color and they become instant showstoppers! So flip through these colorful inspirations before deciding on what is best for your own home…
Neutral Floor Cushions To Fit In AnywhereThis dhurrie pouf from West Elm has a fantastic graphic pattern that is very classic yet on trend. The size means it would be very roomy for sitting on, but you could also see this acting as a super comfy ottoman, paired with your favorite chair. The pouf is neutral enough to match just about any decor style, so moving it around the house would be very easy! This is a much lower cushion, which means it’s perfect for stacking if you need extra height. I happen to love how the knitted pattern brings out the texture in the pouf, almost like it’s a sea creature sitting on your living room floor. This CB2 pouf is also perfect with other low pieces of furniture, so that there aren’t any dramatic height differences. Why should adults get all the fun? This Land of Nod pouf is adorably perfect with numbers along the sides. Truth be told, it could very well be used in an adult bedroom or a living room, which makes it amazingly versatile. The canvas is super easy to clean, so bring it on, kids! Colorful Floor Cushions For a Bit of FunWhite walls, white couch, black window frames and coffee table. Where is the color? In the accessories, of course! These leather poufs from Crate & Barrel are super spunky in their bright colors, and can you imagine how beautifully that leather will fade? Not to mention, it’ll get softer and softer every time you use it. Pattern and color? Yes please. These round poufs are also from Land of Nod, which means they’re intended for kids, but come on… these would be great for a family room to use as extra seating for those board game nights! The fun chevron pattern definitely could help set a playful mood! Scandinavian design is always hot, and these simple, bold floor cushions are so much fun, and look so comfortable! I love that the pattern on the black and white cushion almost mimics the floor boards, and the pops of color bring a dash of fun and interest to the room! You can see more over at Clumsy With Words. Is it a secret that pink is fabulous?! Remember this pink post? You know you love pink too, so why not embrace it by adding little bits of the color in accessories like this leather pouf? The Nester nails it by using the pouf under a table, which makes a workspace so much more comfortable, because who doesn’t love to put their feet up? This piece is also easy to move over to the living room for extra seating whenever needed. Now for serious luxury, this is the jackpot right here. These fabric poufs look as though they were made for a queen, and in this neutral living room full of subtle sparkle and cottage charm, you just might find yourself with a glass of wine (very carefully) lounging a Friday night away. If you’re anything like me, your pets practically run the household! I have a big dog and an ornery kitten in my city apartment. Quite honestly, they are so spoiled – as bad as if they were my children. Since we share a home, it is important to me that they are comfortable too. (If my dog doesn’t have a bed, he will just use mine, so this is in my best interest!) The thing is, in a small space, I don’t have the luxury of hiding my 80-lb. dog’s bed or even my cat’s litter box or scratching post. The only solution for me is finding pieces that are beautiful enough to leave out for guests to see. The Modern Pet Bed I cannot believe it has taken me so long to write an article about pets! They are so much a part of our home. As soon as I walk in the door, my furry friends are the first ones there to greet me and I just love it. If you are reading this post, I’m sure you have pets too and can relate — they have stolen our hearts! Well, just like us, our pets need a bed. The thing is, their beds don’t have to be unsightly. Several amazing designers have tackled the issue of the pet bed and have come up with some beautiful and comfortable solutions for your pet. The first bed is the Pei Pod. This bed is perfect for small dogs or cats. It comes in two sizes: small and medium. This bed is as stylish as it is functional. The pillow is 100% washable and the exterior easily wipes clean. The sleek and beautiful Pei Pod is eco-friendly and comes in several colors. [from Pei Pod] This next bed is by Forma Italia. The company works with clients to customize dimensions for a perfect fit for your pet. [from Forma Italia] Modern Cat Scratching Posts and Litter Boxes Besides a toy basket, luckily my dog does not require too many home accessories, but my cat is a different story. Without a proper scratching post, my little cat threatens to ruin furniture, and don’t even get me started on the bathroom situation. They are high-maintenance on your place, and your home aesthetics could be in danger! Don’t get me wrong–I love my little guy, so luckily there are so many beautiful solutions. I have this cardboard scratcher and lounge by Pet Fusion. I am an artist, and hilariously, one night one of my guests said, “I love your artwork, that must have taken you forever.” The funny part is, he was referring to this scratching post. If it is good enough to look like art, I’d say it’s a wonderful home accessory! [from Amazon] The litter box is almost always an eyesore, but it doesn’t have to be. Believe it or not, your cat’s toilet can be beautiful! [from Modernist Cat]
Colorful Walls Leave it to Latin Americans to transform bite-sized pieces of glass, seashells, and pebbles into full-on murals, framed with interesting patterns that can be stand-alone creations of art as well. If you have a small bathroom, consider painting a wrap-around mural like room the below. If you can direct your attention to something other than the room’s size, then you will be able to enjoy yourself in whatever setting, regardless of its size. It’s understandable if you want to incorporate designs that are easier on the eyes. Instead of painting a floor-to-ceiling mural in the room, go for a simpler feature like the one below. Though the tiles are intricately colored, the fact that they only cover half of the wall shows that small adjustments can offer dramatic results. Living Room Pleasure The fireplace is a common feature found in most homes…well, at least the ones that I visited. Though I cannot justify this, I would like to believe that Latin Americans know how to enjoy life better than we do. And because most people purchase homes near the ocean, their homes mix in a Mediterranean vibe. Though vibrant colors like red and yellow are a big deal for Latin Americans, earthy tones like swatches found in the room above have manifested themselves in contemporary designs. see how the room above is warm in atmosphere? Many people like this style because it’s the kind of design that can uplift a person’s spirits. It’s warm, inviting, and extremely cozy. It’s All About The Arches
No, I’m not talking about the McDonald’s golden arches. I’m talking about hand-carved arches found inside the homes of many Salsa dancers and bull-riders. For some reason they really like this distinctive design. I’m not going to argue with them, because I find these curved structures to be an excellent feature in the home as well. A Touch of Simplicity Granted there’s not a whole lot you can do to transform a bar stool, but simple tricks like switching out the seat cover every now and again could make all the difference in the kitchen. For summer, you can tie citrus colored cushions to the tops of the stools. And once winter is around the corner, swap out the vibrant colors for some cool, refreshing fabrics that allude to the snowy scene. Contemporary Chic If you aren’t a fan of the whole DIY project theme for bar stools, perhaps selections that feature padded seats in their original design will suit your tastes. Aimed at people who are always looking to create a posh living space, contemporary spinoffs of the classic bar stool design provide both form and function. Especially since the design world is fascinated by all things sustainable and minimalistic, bar stools that are carved out of wood make for interesting accents in the kitchen and dining area. With its husky appearance and sturdy build, these smart options of elevated seating will help bring together the dining scene in a way that’s boasting with elegance. A Bit of Leather For an edgier vibe, bar stool cushions wrapped in leather are absolutely irresistible. Unlike fabrics that will be ruined with a single drop of red wine, leather gives you that reactionary response time necessary for some fast-action cleanup should there ever a liquid spill. You’ve probably never seen a bar stool set that hugs the floor as close as the one above. If you are thinking this set defeats the purpose of bar stools, then you are largely mistaken! Like any other stool, this one provides comfort, style and a unique design. Not to mention, it complements the modern kitchen with exquisite tastes. Colorful Stools For a Change in Pace One thing I like about stools is that they can double as functional art. There’s no better way to brighten up the kitchen than with a set of colorful, somewhat oddly-shaped stools. Instead of choosing cold-looking metal stools and earthy wood seats for your home, look for high-gloss plastic ones because these styles are interesting decor experiments that you will be proud of. Minimalistic Twist
Redecorating the kitchen does not require you to go out of your way to find attractive furniture, instead all you need to do is secure a set of fashionably attractive bar stools minted with a minimalistic charm. |
